Dickerson Didn’t Get an A for Effort
Forget the fact that Eric Dickerson boldly backed out in the middle of a four-year contract with the L.A. Rams, what he said was unforgivable: Trade me or give me more money or I will not play my best.
In all sports, at any level, the only thing more important than winning is that you play your best. Lucky for Dickerson, Pete Rozelle was the commissioner and cared only about financial matters.
Would you rather your kid say he won’t play his best or that he’s going to bet on himself to win? That’s a no-brainer, kind of like Canton and Cooperstown.
