Ventura’s Turner Pitches 3-Hit, 14-Strikeout Gem

Ventura’s David Turner threw a three-hit shutout and struck out 14 Friday and the Pirates defeated Porterville, 7-0, in a Sequoias tournament game at Porterville.
Turner (2-1), a sophomore right-hander from Agoura High, gave up only singles in the second, fourth and eighth innings in his first complete game for Ventura (2-1).
Matt Cresto sparked Ventura’s offense with two hits and a run batted in. The Pirates also got a two-run double from Matt Alonzo in a three-run third inning.
L.A. Harbor 10, Pierce 9--Covelli Crisp had a pair of two-run doubles and Josh Miranda hit a two-run home run for Pierce, but the Brahmas were hurt by six errors that led to six unearned runs for L.A. Harbor in a Western State Conference tournament game at Pierce.
Miranda’s homer came in a three-run third inning for Pierce (1-2), but the Seahawks (5-1) scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-3 lead, and the Brahmas couldn’t catch up. Traviss Hodge added two hits for Pierce.
Moorpark 20, East L.A. 6--Joe Tillmon and Zach Gordon each had three hits to lead an 18-hit attack for the Raiders (4-2) in a WSC tournament game at Moorpark.
Gordon and Tillmon singled, doubled and hit one home run. Gordon drove in four runs and Tillmon three. Josh Goldfield also had four RBIs on a home run, a sacrifice fly and two singles.
Cerritos 9, Valley 3--Nick Lombard and Abe Montiel each had two hits and an RBI for the Monarchs (2-4) in a WSC tournament loss at Valley.
Josh Weller’s two-run double in the seventh inning sparked a four-run rally for Cerritos (6-0).
Cypress 20, Glendale 15--Nick Browne (0-1) gave up seven earned runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief and Glendale fell in a Cypress tournament game.
Glendale (1-4) led, 10-8, after five innings, but Cypress (5-0) scored five runs in the sixth to go ahead for good. Cypress took a 20-11 lead with seven runs in the eighth.
Jason Botts hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and a two-run double in the eighth for the Vaqueros.
SOFTBALL
Moorpark 18-9, Cerritos 2-2--Naomi Qualls had two hits and drove in three runs and the Raiders (2-0) swept a nonconference doubleheader at Cerritos.
Julie Jensen and Candice Roberts each had four hits for Moorpark in the first game.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Master’s 59, Christian Heritage 47--Elizabeth Hansell recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Mustangs in a nonconference game at Master’s.
The victory was the 12th in a row and the 18th in 19 games for Master’s (24-4).
