SEASON AT A GLANCE: Olson is off to a better start than last season, when the left-hander was The Times’ Valley pitcher of the year. He is 4-0 with a 1.00 earned-run average for the Falcons, ranked No. 1 in the region. In 28 innings, he has struck out 57 and allowed only 10 hits.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Olson struck out 15 and allowed one hit in Crescenta Valley’s 4-0 Pacific League victory over Hoover. The previous week, he struck out 18 against Arcadia. He combines the region’s best curveball with an improving fastball and pinpoint control.

SEASON AT A GLANCE: Cox, The Times’ 1998 Valley player of the year, is batting .463 with six home runs and 14 runs batted in, leading the Rebels to a 13-1 record. As a pitcher, she is 12-1 with 109 strikeouts and a 0.65 ERA in 75 2/3 innings.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: The Cal State Fullerton-bound left-hander was 4-0, struck out 36 and did not allow a run in games against Harvard-Westlake, Crescenta Valley, Valencia and Victor Valley. At the plate, Cox was eight for 12 with four home runs, 11 runs batted in and 23 total bases.
