Leisure World’s Ham Radio Club today will join a network of amateur radio operators poised to exchange information during a disaster or emergency.
The club will represent the city in the countywide Radio Amateur Communication Emergency Service.
The service is made up of scattered groups of amateur radio operators who use small, battery-powered transmitters.
The transmitters allow their operators to communicate when power sources or telephone lines are destroyed in an earthquake or other disaster, said Art Welch, the club’s president.
