L.A. Baptist 46, Village Christian 22--Lord Cole and Scott Swenson led a balanced attack for the Knights as they defeated the Crusaders in the annual Bible Bowl at Kennedy High.
Cole opened the scoring on a four-yard run. After Village Christian’s Jason Stauffer gave the Crusaders a brief 8-7 lead on a six-yard scoring run, Cole took the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown. Cole left with a possible broken collarbone in the second quarter.
Swenson completed 17 of 22 passes for 156 yards. He threw a touchdown pass of 16 yards to Jason French in the second quarter and another of 23 yards to Adam Weiss to give L.A. Baptist a 29-14 lead.
Quarterback Neil Gunn of Village Christian scored on a 44-yard run to cut the Knights’ lead at 22-14 with 4:08 remaining in the first half. Gunn connected with Albert Quintana for a 73-yard pass play late in the fourth quarter.
Otha Cole, Lord’s younger brother, took over the tailback duties and gained 74 yards in 15 carries.
