Cardiac Science Inc., a maker of external cardiac defibrillator devices, said Wednesday that it has received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration to market the commercial version of its Powerheart ECD heart defibrillator.
The Irvine medical devices company said in a press release that it already has made an initial $102,900 shipment of the product, the first delivery in a backlog of purchase orders worth a total of $1.2 million.
Powerheart is a bedside heart defibrillator that monitors hospital patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest. If the product detects certain heart rhythms, it automatically delivers defibrillation shocks to reestablish a normal rhythm.
