Wave forecaster Sean Collins was commended by the City Council on Monday for his service to Seal Beach’s emergency preparedness operations and for promoting surfing worldwide.
Collins volunteers as a storm watch expert for the city and is part of a team that puts preventive measures and response plans into place. In addition, he monitors swells and beach erosion on Surfside and Seal Beach shores.
Collins was named one of the Top 25 Most Influential Surfers of All Time by Surfer magazine last summer. After thanking the City Council, Collins said that recent runoff and pollution problems have added reports of bacteria levels to his wave forecasts.
