The city has agreed to pay about $50,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by seven people whose cars were engulfed by water on Lake Forest Drive during a 1997 flood, attorneys said.
Victims blamed the flood on faulty storm drains and sued the city and the county in 1998 for about $50,000 per person plus damages to their vehicles, said the plaintiffs’ attorney, James Daily.
A city official said the settlement was less about accountability and more about saving money.
