Board to Give Parking Firm a Second Chance

The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to throw out a proposed award for a minor parking contract, giving a bidder with past labor law violations a second chance at the deal.
Parking Co. of America, which operates the 356-space lot at the Department of Children and Family Services’ Borax Building on Wilshire Boulevard, lost the $70,000-a-year contract to Five Star Parking after officials discovered that the state had investigated Parking Co. for alleged failure to pay overtime, a fact the firm did not initially disclose in its bid.
The company said payroll errors resulted in underpayment of nearly $10,000 in overtime over three years.
