Schools and Stadiums

Two articles in the May 13 paper make for a striking contrast. One, “NFL Ledgers Reveal Profits Depend on New Stadiums,” details taxpayers handing over billions of dollars to build football stadiums to further enrich millionaire team owners and players. The other, “Crumbling Rural Schools One Step From Disaster,” describes the lack of funding to build decent schools to benefit our future citizens (known today as children) and their underpaid teachers. On the one hand, luxury boxes for the few, and on the other, hazardous conditions for the many. Could it be any more clear how our priorities differ from what they should be?
