From Times Wire Reports
The last defendant in the Central Park jogger rape case remaining in prison was freed after a judge resentenced him to a lesser term on a drug conviction.
Raymond Santana had served his sentence for the 1989 park attack when he was arrested on a drug charge in 1998. Because he was a prior felon, he was sentenced to 3 1/2 years to seven years in prison.
The resentencing made Santana eligible for immediate release. He has served four years and 22 days, long past the time he would have been eligible for release.
