No Enmity for Students

I am the mother of Elie Israel, one of the young persons killed on Sabado Tarde in Isla Vista on the night of Feb. 23, 2001. I want to commend your coverage of the David Attias trial. It has been consistently perceptive and unbiased.
I would, however, like to correct one sentence in “Attias Trial Points Up Dorm Life’s Wild Side” (May 28). I did not and would not say--as the story suggests--that I have “a special enmity” for Francisco Torres Residence Hall. There is no way I had or have a “special enmity” for anyone other than David Attias. I have spent the past several weeks in the courtroom, listening to the testimony of dozens of intelligent and clear-headed student witnesses, many of whom resided in Francisco Torres. I remain grateful for the ongoing support and sympathy shown to me, and to the families of the other victims, by the Santa Barbara community.
