* Lucent Technologies Inc., the largest U.S. telephone-equipment maker, said its fiscal third-quarter loss narrowed as costs fell. Sales dropped by a third because of a slump in U.S. demand for wireless equipment.
* Online movie service Movielink and Walt Disney Co. have agreed to a licensing pact under which Movielink will offer Disney movies for downloading. Financial details were withheld, but the pact means Movielink has films from six of Hollywood’s seven major studios.
* Walt Disney Co. has hired investment banks Bear Stearns and Goldman Sachs to sell its chain of Disney Store outlets, a source in the media conglomerate said. Disney has had casual talks with some potential buyers, but the two investment banks, hired in the last week, will head the drive to transfer the money-losing division to a company that would pay Disney royalties, the source said.
