Los Angeles is home to some of the finest musicians in the world, and this week, Angelenos will get some fine music for free.
The Verizon Music Festival presents Smokey Robinson, Christian McBride Band, Joyce Cooling, Phil Ranelin Jazz Ensemble, Mike Melvoin Trio and others at Pasadena’s Central Park all day Saturday.

Verizon festival jazz -- A story in Thursday’s Calendar Weekend gave the wrong day for the Verizon Music Festival free jazz concert featuring Smokey Robinson, Christian McBride Band, Joyce Cooling and others. The concert is noon Sunday at Central Park in Pasadena, 275 S. Raymond Ave.
The eighth Central Avenue Jazz Festival offers two days of L.A.’s best, including Art Davis, Roy Gaines, the Gerald Wilson Orchestra and Ernie Andrews.
And the Henry Mancini Institute kicks off its free summer concert series Saturday with Gunther Schuller, Claudia Acuna, Billy Childs, Vinnie Colaiuta and others at Royce Hall.
