Single Fair to Celebrate India’s Independence

After years of holding separate Bay Area festivals to celebrate India’s independence, organizers have decided to forget past gripes, save money and hold one big event this summer.
Leaders of the three festivals of India -- held in Fremont, Santa Clara and Union City -- have joined forces.
“We decided to put our personal differences aside. Will this last forever? No one can guarantee that. But at least we’re making an effort,” said Romesh Japra, a cardiologist who started the original festival in Fremont, now in its 11th year.
If the events weren’t combined, the Bay Area’s Indo American community of 155,000 would have had to choose among three celebrations over back-to-back weekends in August.
