Dozens of Vehicles Crash on Snowy Highway

A tractor-trailer traveling an estimated 55 mph in whiteout conditions jackknifed across Interstate 80, setting off a chain-reaction pileup that wrecked up to 80 vehicles about 60 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
No deaths or critical injuries were reported, but the late-morning accident near the Ohio border blocked westbound lanes for more than eight hours, state police said.
State Trooper Ted Hunt said the truck pulled into the passing lane and jackknifed. Two other rigs skidded sideways, and oncoming vehicles began crashing into them.
He said the driver of the tractor-trailer was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
