Political battles and the war on terror

Re “Democrats Go on Offense in Latest Terror Case,” Aug. 12
So the Democrats are going on offense in the war on terror. It’s about time. Consider this:
Are we safer from a preemptive war based on false premises still putting American troops in harm’s way?
Are we safer as an occupying power in the Middle East, trapped in an Iraq on the verge of civil war?
Are we safer by sitting out the Israeli-Arab conflict until it reached a crisis threatening world peace?
Are we safer spending more than $250 billion to date to “rebuild” Iraq, unsuccessfully, while our ports are porous and our airlines at risk?
Are we safer with [Osama] Bin Laden still on the loose five years after 9/11?
The questions answer themselves.

If the comments by Democratic leaders immediately after the possible terrorist strike are examples of how they will react in future crises, our country is in dire straits if they come to power. The Democrats are so adamant on making the “Bush Iraq war” the main issue in future elections that no matter what the subject, they have to get in their blame-game comments. The Democrats were so busy covering for their poor performance in giving the country the proper tools needed to fight terrorism that our main hope is that their negative planning comes to no fruition. If the actions of the Democrats would change to being helpful with ideas, we might get through this trial period in our nation’s history.
