Poets laureate to read together

From a Times staff writer

The poets laureate of the United States and Great Britain will team up for three readings of their own work and that of their contemporaries.

Donald Hall of the United States and Andrew Motion of England will appear together in Chicago on May 7, Washington on May 10 and London on June 6. All three will be free.

“These historic readings will promote critical awareness of, and a shared readership for, the contemporary poetry written on both sides of the Atlantic,” said John Barr, president of the Chicago-based Poetry Foundation, one of the event’s sponsors.
