The annual Art International fair opens in Pasadena this weekend with a wealth of California works. Modernists should visit the booth of Galerie Yoramgil to see “Passing Red” and “Big Bang” ($160,000, shown here), rare late-1950s paintings by abstract Expressionist and maverick sculptor Peter Voulkos, who founded the ceramics department at what is now Otis College of Art and Design. Among other highlights: The Papillon Gallery of West Hollywood will show mixed-media works by San Francisco artist Carl Hugo Beetz, who chronicled life at 1930s pool halls, racetracks and boxing rings.
