UC Irvine has received a $5-million gift to establish a cardiovascular technology research center, officials announced Wednesday.
The gift from Edwards Lifesciences Corp. will enable students, faculty members and outside experts to focus on researching and developing the next generation of cardiovascular devices.
The center will be in Engineering 3, a new building on campus scheduled for completion in August 2009. A national search is underway for its director, officials said.
