California: Super Tuesday’s big prize

California and 23 other states will hold presidential nominating contests on Tuesday. States with Democratic contests that day will send 2,064 delegates to the national Democratic convention, where a candidate will need 2,025 votes to win the nomination. States with Republican contests will send 1,081 delegates to the Republican convention, where the winner will need 1,191. For both parties’ candidates, California’s delegates are the biggest prize.
