* at Houston 3, Pittsburgh 2: Pinch-hitter Mark Saccomanno hit a home run in the fifth inning on the first pitch he saw in the major leagues to lead the Astros. Saccomanno became the fourth Astro to hit a home run in his first big league plate appearance.
* Cincinnati 5, at Milwaukee 4: Jeff Keppinger’s double capped a three-run, ninth-inning rally against closer Salomon Torres (6-5), which shrunk the Brewers’ lead in the National League wild-card race to three games over Philadelphia with 18 games to play.
* at Philadelphia 8, Florida 6: Jayson Werth hit a three-run home run, Jimmy Rollins had three hits and three steals, and the Phillies closed to within 1 1/2 games of first-place New York in the NL East.
