Paul Rudd will star in the film “The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving,” Variety reports. Rob Burnett is slated to direct the film, and is adapting the novel by Jonathan Evison.
Published in 2012, “The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving” tells the story of Ben Benjamin, a man eluding divorce who just barely qualifies as a professional caregiver for a typical teenage boy -- video-game-obsessed, sex-crazed -- who has muscular dystrophy.
Rudd plays superhero Scott Lang in Marvel’s “Ant-Man,” coming in July. He is best known for comedic roles in “Anchorman” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” yet also appears in dozens of indie dramas. Literary film fans with long memories may recall him as Josh in “Clueless,” the 1995 retelling of Jane Austen’s “Emma” set in Beverly Hills.
Evison shared news of Rudd’s involvement in the film on Facebook, posting, “I’ve been sitting on this big news forever . . .so excited!”
While film adaptations can take some time to get underway, “The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving” appears to be ready to go. Production is slated to begin Jan. 22.
