A teenage Chinese exchange student drowned in his host family’s pool in Anaheim after going for a swim Wednesday night, authorities said.
Officers received a call about a possible drowning in the 800 block of West North Street around 8:45 p.m., according to the Anaheim Police Department.
The 16-year-old boy, who was not immediately identified, apparently went for a swim alone and was later found in the pool in distress. He was transported in critical condition to Anaheim Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
It is unclear whether they boy, who had arrived a few weeks ago from China, knew how to swim, police said.
No foul play was suspected.
