FULLERTON - The Orange Coast United Rush, a girls under-15 club
soccer team win the Junior United Soccer Association (JUSA) Girls
Under-15 Club Championship Monday at Cal State Fullerton.
The Newport Beach-based squad overcame 100-degree field temps as well
as a one-goal deficit to win 1-1 (4-2 on penalty kicks), over Brazil, a
United Soccer Club team from Moreno Valley.
After falling behind early, OCU sweeper Breanne Ogden tied the game
with a 43-yard moon shot, off an assist from Tanisha Senarante.
After two 10-minute overtime periods, it came down to penalty kicks.
Brazil scored first, but Rachel Welsey tied the game. Brazil scored
again, but Marissa Browne tied the score, once again.
Goalkeeper Rachel Waters made the save on the next PK attempt and
Ogden buried her shot to give the Rush the lead for good. After Senarante
scored for the Rush, Brazil’s next attempt sailed wide and the locals
prevailed.
JUSA officials named Senarante the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
