Women’s soccer: Pirates win tournament title

SANTA MARIA - The Orange Coast College women’s soccer team won
three of four contests en route to winning the Allan Hancock Tournament,
capping the weekend off with a 3-0 win over Irvine Valley in the title
game.
Jaycee Mahler (Corona del Mar High) and Marissa McGregor each had a
goal and an assist for the Pirates (4-2), while goalkeeper Laurie Perkins
had just one save. OCC outshot the Lasers, 9-2.
Nikki Saenz added a single tally off an assist from Renee Gomez for
the Pirates, who also posted victories over Mira Costa, 4-0, and El
Camino, 6-1. OCC also lost to the College of the Sequoias, 1-0.
Other strong play came from Cristina Guerin, the tournament’s Most
Valuable Player. Perkins was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament,
while Mahler won the Golden Boot Award.
OCC returns to action today at home against Saddleback in the Pirates’
Orange Empire Conference opener. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
