BOATING FORECAST
Light winds and morning fog start the day off in the harbor. Wind
waves should only reach a foot with a mixed west and south swell of 3
feet. The winds will pick up only to 15 knots by late afternoon. The wind
waves might double to 2 feet.
The deeper waters will also be pretty calm. The wind stays about 10 to
15 knots throughout the day. Wind waves stay at 2 feet or less, with a
mixed northwest and south swell of 5 feet. Watch for some patches of fog.
SURF
It’s all about the true south-facing beaches today. An extremely steep
burst of energy is headed our way, which will miss Newport Beach some,
but still bring solid shoulder-high waves with a lot of lip to blast. The
best breaks in the area will see waves a couple of feet overhead. Catch
it midmorning with the tide push, which should help the shape and keep
the speed down just a bit. Next week’s shaping up even better, with a
more egalitarian southwest swell on the way.
