THE WEATHER FORECAST
You know how there’s supposed to be a pot of gold at the end of the
rainbow? Well today there’s supposed to be a ray of sunshine at the end
of what will be a cloudy day.
The morning will start in the mid-60s, warming to a high of 77 at
around 4 p.m. It may feel 80s in the afternoon, but it’s only in the
mid-70s. A 47% cloud cover at noon should blow or burn away to 22 % at 4
p.m. At least, we hope it does.
The UV index will hit its high of 7 on a scale of 10 at noon, so wear
sunscreen. The night will be clearer than the day and temperatures will
range in the mid-60s.
THE BOATING FORECAST
Close to shore, variable winds of less than 10 knots will start
blowing from the southwest and west at 10 to 15 knots by the afternoon.
Wind waves are expected to be 2 feet or less, and a mixed south and west
swell is expected to be 3 feet. There will be some patchy morning fog.
The winds are expected to return to their early morning state overnight.
Farther out, the prediction is much the same wind-wise, except the
winds will come from the west and northwest in the afternoon. Wind waves
of 1 foot or less are expected out there, with a mixed northwest and
south swell of 5 feet.
THE SURFING FORECAST
Tropical Storm Henriette is Newport Beach’s friend this weekend,
providing some nice surf for the Rip Curl Pro competition Saturday. Some
of that benefit will wash over today, with top spots expected to catch
surf in the chest- toshoulder- to head-high range. Expect it to taper off
in the afternoon, so catch it while you can.
