AYSO Region 97: Ameba rally to tie Huntington Beach

NEWPORT BEACH - The Ameba boys under-14 progressive-select soccer
team from AYSO Region 97 battled Huntington Beach to a 1-1 tie Saturday at Mariners Park.
Trailing, 1-0, midway through the second half, Wes Urtuastegui sent a
perfect pass to Tyler Parker, who found the back of the net to tie the
game. Smart positioning by Tiam Abderezai, Jake Lembeck and Cameron Guy
opened up the middle for Parker’s shot.
The Ameba’s midfield was led by John Manchester, Aaron Harper, Ben
Ingails and Pat Murphy, while the defense was anchored by Travis
Mayfield, Kenny Rakestraw, Will Harrison, A.J. Buffalini and Tony Rivas.
In boys Division 5 action:
Highlighters 4, Blue Sharks 1 - Cole McCrea kicked in two goals and
Keiffer Edmonston booted in another from 30 yards out to lead the
Highlighters to a hard-fought victory. Harrison Tingler and Tyler Smyth
both played well in goal for the Highlighters, turning away many shots.
Also playing excellent overall games were Jake Caughill, Evan Call, Mark
Sakioka and Tristan Lobdell. Michael Clark acted as the sparkplug for the
Blue Sharks.
In girls Division 5 action:
Green Shockers 2, Solar Bears 0 - Valentina Buonancoce and Sadie Busby
each scored goals to lead the Shockers to victory.
Kasey DeYoung, Cailea Eisenberg and Bonnie Styles added to the
Shockers’ offense, while Hannah MacLeod and Stephanie Haves controlled
the defense.
In boys Division 4 action:
Raiders 0, Icicles 0 - The Raiders’ Chris Gurierrez and Morgan Lintz
each stopped numerous shots to preserve a scoreless tie.
Sweepers Brandon Rowley and Spenser Bratto were strong, while Raider
teammates Brett Adams, Jordan Hovis and Collin Dennis played well at the
fullback positions.
Midfielders Jeff Newman, Jason Jacobi and Jorel Porcile kept the
Raiders in control, while Mitch Bancroft, Jeff Cefalia, R.J. D’Cruz and
Peter Nguyen each had quality shots.
In boys under-11 select action: Newport 5, Tustin 1 - Defensive standouts for Newport included Scott
Ward, Jeffrey Frum, Clay Friend, Parker Conant, Chris Barnard and Bryan
Rhodes, while Taylor Davis scored twice and Alex Maddox, Connor Bathen
and Erickson Klein each scored once.
In boys Division 6 action:
For the Destroyers, in their matchup against the Twisted Turtles,
Teddy Barry, Christopher Sheppard, Jesse Torres and Adam Yeomans each had
several shots on goal, while Jason Aviles, Hayden Noakes, James Jarvis,
Jack Murrel and Sean Regan anchored the defense.
For the Zap-Dragons, in their contest with the Sharks, Quest Truxton,
Garrett Spruth and Nicholas Shallahamer provided the offense, while
Montgomery Faigen, Joey Gregory and Chris Dinatale stabilized the
defense.
