BOATING FORECAST
Light winds throughout the day in the harbor, between 10 and 15 knots
from the west with 2-foot wind waves. The swell will be a mix of south
and west at 3 feet. Watch for patchy morning fog. By evening, the swell
will pick up to about 4 feet, but the winds will remain the same.
In the outer waters, the winds will start out from the northwest and
less than 10 knots and then pick up to 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon.
The strongest winds will be northwest of San Nicolas Island. The wind
waves won’t be bad, just 1 to 3 feet. The swell will be mixed from the
south and northwest at 5 feet. It stays that way into the night.
SURF
A steep southeast swell will pretty much pass Newport Beach by,
continuing the string of poor surf this summer. Expect waist- to maybe
chest-high waves. The high tide will hurt things too.
There’s hope: Next week looks to have a string of decent swells headed
this way.
