Men’s and women’s cross country: Jones grabs sixth for Vanguard men

CHINO - Vanguard University’s Robbie Jones placed sixth in the Tour
of the Park Cross Country Inviational in Chino Saturday.
His 16:09.50, with an average of 5:08 per mile on the 6,000-meter
course, led the Lions to a seventh-place finish out of the 12 schools
that competed in the event.
The Vanguard women finished 10th as Liz Huipe, an Estancia High
product, led the way coming at No. 30 with a 24:41.90.
The Vanguard men’s showing included Steve Lalim (38th 20:35), Kyle
Kahl (61st 21:27), David Johnson (69th 21:46.20) and John Bensen (80th
22:20.50), placing in the top 80 out of 100 runners.
On the women’s side, behind Huipe, came Sarah Hall at 35th with a
24:54.60. Jenny Thune followed later at 49th in 25:26.50.
Beth Weidler came in 57th (25:56) and Ashley Greer finished 79th
(27:29.80) out of 100 runner.
