Frosh/soph water polo: CdM wins Newport title

NEWPORT BEACH - The Corona del Mar High frosh/soph boys team won
the Newport Water Polo Tournament with a 5-1 victory over Foothill
Saturday.
The victory capped a 25-4 scoring advantage over the Sea Kings’ three
foes. CdM defeated Tustin 10-3 Thursday, and came up with big wins
Saturday, including a 10-0 rout of Irvine for the title.
In the win over Foothill, Nadeem Hakim scored twice, while Griffin
Gentry, Daniel Niehenke and Scott Street scored one goal each. Goalie
Gaston Sanford recorded six saves.
. The CdM junior varsity boys team split two games in the Newport
Harbor Junior Varsity Tournament. Ali Kattan scored three goals in a 9-3
loss to Foothill and Ryan Moore tallied three times in a 5-4 win over
Dana Hills. Kattan and Spencer Harris added a goal apiece in the winning
cause, while goalie Tyler Brundage stopped seven shots.
