Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach was evacuated for 30
minutes Wednesday after an anonymous phone call came into the school’s
office regarding a possible bomb threat.
Principal Karen Gilden said she decided to evacuate the school, which
has 1,560 students, at 8:30 a.m., about 15 minutes after the call was
placed.
“In today’s climate it’s hard to tell what’s true and what’s not,”
Gilden said. “But it was good to practice evacuation procedures. Now we
know we can [evacuate].”
The Huntington Beach Police Department also received an anonymous
phone call of a possible bomb threat at the school at 8:11 a.m. Wednesday and sent five officers to the school.
Lt. Luis Ochoa of the Huntington Beach Police Department said nothing
was found.
Gilden said students, teachers and staff were allowed back inside
shortly after 9 a.m.
