South Gate rolled up a 35-0 halftime lead on the Huntington Beach
Junior Clinic White Dolphins on Saturday and never looked back in scoring
a 42-0 victory in Junior All-American Football action.
Highlights for the Dolphins included Jake Strickler, who had a
recovery of an onside kick to start the game and also a tackle for loss,
and Cameron Trentini with a sack.
“We didn’t play as well as we could, but I’m still proud of the
players,” Coach Dave Small said. “When you take a group of kids as
inexperienced as we have and line them up against what could be one of
the best teams in California at our level, you’re in for a long day.
“But the great part about games like this is what you learn. These
little guys are getting so much more experience than other 7-year-olds.
It’s amazing at how far they have come in such a short period of time. I
think that those [players] who stick with the sport will really become
something special because of this season.”
The Junior Clinic White Dolphins, who opened the season with a 20-6
loss to Bellflower, will take on the Corona Panthers at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ocean View High.
