The New Millennium Group is set to give a presentation today in
Newport Beach on its V-plan for a proposed airport at the El Toro Marine
base.
In what they are calling “Wake Up Newport,” group members will
describe their concept, which is an alternative to the county’s airport
plan for the base.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Lido Island Yacht Club, 701
Via Lido Sound.
The group is circulating a ballot measure to get the plan put on a
countywide ballot. The plan would realign the base’s crossbar runway
pattern into a “V” shape. Planes would take off into the wind heading
southwest, as opposed to the county’s plan for northerly or easterly
departures.
The group needs more than 71,000 valid signatures to force a public
vote.
