Another sewage spill closes the Harbour

Another portion of Huntington Harbour has been closed following a
sewage spill.
The Orange County Health Care Agency closed the harbor at Sunset
Aquatic Marina and Portofino Cove Marina on Saturday after 500 gallons of
sewage contaminated the area.
The agency kept the area closed through Tuesday, while it took water
samples.
The spill, which occurred in Westminster, was caused by a blocked
sewer line in Midway City Sanitation District’s collection system.
“We think the pipeline was clogged with grease and didn’t allow the
sewage to go through,” said Monica Mazur, an environmental health
specialist for the agency.
The agency took a fourth set of samples Tuesday to determine when the
harbor could be reopened to swimming and diving.
Mazur said the agency received notification of the spill on Saturday
night and responded immediately.
