Women’s cross country: Huipe honored as Lion of the Week

COSTA MESA - Vanguard University freshman Liz Huipe, an Estancia
High product, has led the Lions’ pack in each of its four races this
season.
Huipe’s brilliant start on her collegiate cross country career has
resulted in Lion of the Week honors.
This past weekend the Lions traveled to the UC Riverside Invitational
where they competed against nearly 30 teams of various divisions. NCAA
Division I UC Irvine won the women’s team title.
Huipe, competing against 265 other runners, finished with a time of
20:21 on the 5,000-meter course. Huipe’s time, her second best of the
season, was good enough for 76th place, and was also the sixth fastest
all-time mark for Vanguard women on the Riverside course.
The Lions’ next event is Oct. 6, when they host the Vanguard
University Invitational, at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa, next door to
Estancia High School. With a weekend off from competition, the familiar
course should be a breeze to the Estancia grad.
