Men’s water polo: UCI edges Loyola, 11-9

IRVINE - Senior Chris Kirchwehm scored four goals and sophomore
Garrett Gentry, a Corona del Mar High product, added three to lift
seventh-ranked UC Irvine over No. 11 Loyola Marymount, 11-9, in
nonconference action at the Anteater Aquatics Complex Thursday night.
Kirchwehm and Gentry scored five of UCI’s goals in the opening two
periods.
Kirchwehm scored his final goal of the night with 3:52 left for an
11-7 cushion. Junior goalie Doug Finfrock had 10 saves for the Anteaters
(2-2), to help send the Lions to 5-4 on the year.
UC Irvine returns to action Saturday night, hosting fourth-ranked
Pepperdine at 7 p.m.
