Eagles top Roadrunners

Led by a triple-double from Trisha Wase (14 points, 11 rebounds
and 10 assists), the Estancia High girls basketball team won its
second Golden West League game in as many tries Thursday at host
Saddleback.
The Eagles (7-8, 2-0 in league) were tied with the Roadrunners
with eight minutes left to play when Estancia Coach Tami Rappa gave a
pep talk.
“I told them it was a new game and if they wanted it they had to
have it in their heart,” Rappa said. “I think we’re starting to get
it turned around. We have to work on being more consistent.”
The Eagles shot 15 of 36 (41.6%) from the field and grabbed 40
rebounds as a team, which pleased Rappa.
Xochitl Byfield led the Eagles with 18 points while hauling in
eight rebounds, one of which came following a missed Estancia free
throw in the final minute, Rappa said.
The Eagles have now won two in a row and will continue league play
against host Santa Ana Tuesday at 6 p.m. before traveling to city
rival Costa Mesa for a clash Thursday at 7 p.m.
