Sour Power reigns

Although they still have one game left to play in the AYSO Area K
tournament, Sour Power has alreadu clinched the championship.
The champion of Region 55 won two games last weekend to run their
tournament record to 6-0.
Sour Power has amassed 55 out of a possible 60 points in pool
play. No other team can catch them in the overall standings.
Sour Power began the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Region 5.
In that match, Sour Power fell behind for the first time in the
tournament and trailed, 2-1, at the half.
Vanessa Calderon scored Sour Power’s first-half goal.
Sour Power came on strong in the second half and was led by the
four-goal scoring of Devon Shinn.
The defensive play of Maddie McKinley, Chelsea Rebollar and Hayley
Lytle aided the comeback.
Sour Power followed that win with a 2-0 shutout of Region 56.
Shinn and Calderon scored, and Tori Martinez gave an outstanding
performance in goal.
Olivia Poss’ play on defense and contributions by Katie Brunner,
Saida Mendoza, Jennifer Hu, Amber Soedel, Chanelle Neal and Ashley
Butcher helped key the victory.
The two wins improved Sour Power’s season record to 17-1. The team
will conclude Area K play on Saturday. In March, they will represent
the area in the District 11 playoffs.
