* Quivera Street: A parent called police when her 2-year-old son
disappeared in the 800 block at 8:58 a.m. He was last seen in his
pajamas and didn’t want to go to school. He was found 10 minutes
later.
* South Coast Highway: A resident reported that a transient was
exposing himself on the beach near the 500 block at 9:45 a.m.
Officers found the suspect, but the caller would not sign a citizen’s
arrest.
* Rembrandt Drive: Firefighters and paramedics responded to a
call about a man who fell out of a tree in the 1000 block at 10:37
a.m. The victim was transported to South Coast Medical Center.
* North Coast Highway: A resident reported a man in a wheelchair
moving in and out of traffic causing cars to stop in the 300 block at
12:21 p.m. Officers were unable to find him.
* McKnight Drive: Firefighters and paramedics responded to a call
about a 9-year-old boy who fell out of a car in the 100 block at 9:28
p.m.
* Skyline Drive: A resident reported that a body was lying on the
sidewalk in the 800 block at 10:23 p.m. Police arrested a 40-year-old
Laguna Beach resident on suspicion of public intoxication.
JAN. 16
* Sunset Terrace: A resident reported a dead cat in her loft in
the 100 block at 11:58 p.m. The cat wasn’t hers.
* Park Avenue: Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the
2200 block at 12:22 p.m. The fire was extinguished at 12:50 p.m.
* Temple Hills Drive: An officer conducted a traffic stop and
arrested a 38-year-old Laguna Niguel resident on multiple warrants in
the 1500 block at 2:53 p.m. The man was wanted on a Central Court
warrant for failure to appear on charges of driving with a suspended
license and failure to pay a fine and on a South Court warrant for
failure to appear on multiple charges of driving with a suspended
license, driving faster than 55 miles per hour on a two-lane highway
and failure to stop. He was transported to Orange County Jail in lieu
of $31,297 bail.
* Temple Hills Drive: A resident reported that his friend took
his scooter without his permission in the 1000 block at 5:31 p.m. An
officer helped the owner get it back.
* Catalina/Mountain streets: A resident reported a rollaway car
in the intersection at 8:50 p.m. The owner of the vehicle was
contacted. She said that her daughter had driven it to a baby-sitting
job in the area. The mother arrived on the scene and moved it out of
the way.
FRIDAY
* Crown Valley Parkway/South Coat Highway: A 47-year-old Laguna
Beach resident was arrested on suspicion of driving under the
influence and possession of marijuana near the intersection at 2:21
a.m.
* North Coast Highway: A store manager called police when a
female customer was vomiting in the bathroom in the 600 block at 7:35
a.m.
* North Coast Highway/Irvine Coast Drive: A 35-year-old Orange
woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence near
the intersection at 7:13 p.m.
* Santa Ana Street/Capistrano Avenue: A Mercedes Benz was
reported in the intersection at 9:22 p.m. The officer noted that it
had rolled 200 feet down a steep hill and did not hit any vehicles
parked on the street.
* Cedar Way: A resident reported a kitchen fire in the 100 block
at 9:49 p.m. The owner put it out with an extinguisher.
* Diamond Street/South Coast Highway: Police responded to a
reckless driving call at 10:30 p.m. An officer pulled over a
40-year-old Lake Forest man at the intersection and arrested him on
suspicion of driving under the influence.
SATURDAY
* South Coast Highway: Police arrested a 28-year-old Newport
Beach man for public intoxication and walking in the roadway in the
600 block at 12:19 a.m.
* Cleo Street/South Coast Highway: A 25-year-old Laguna Hills man
was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence near the
intersection at 1:28 a.m.
* South Coast Highway: An officer pulled over a driver for
crossing a double line and then arrested a 32-year-old Santa
Margarita man on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and drug
paraphernalia in the 1400 block at 1:32 a.m.
* Castle Rock/Laguna Canyon roads: A 30-year-old Lake Forest man
was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence near the
intersection at 2:01 a.m.
* South Coast Highway: A resident called police asking them to
evict a transient off a park bench in the 500 block at 1:43 p.m. She
was advised that unless the man is breaking the law, they can’t make
him do anything.
* South Coast Highway: A stolen vehicle was reported in the 900
block at 2:08 p.m. The owners realized that their white 1995
four-door BMW 740 was missing from the lot. The keys were also
unaccounted for. The case is under investigation.
* North Coast Highway/Irvine Cove Drive: A driver reported that a
pedestrian was walking in and out of the bike lane in the area at
6:12 p.m. An officer contacted the pedestrian and advised him to be
careful of traffic.
* Cliff Drive: An officer conducted a traffic stop in the 800
block at 10:06 p.m. An 18-year-old El Toro man was cited for
possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and for
knowingly driving a vehicle with an alcoholic beverage.
SUNDAY
* South Coast Highway: A 28-year-old Newport Beach man was
arrested for public intoxication in the 600 block at 12:19 a.m.
* Laguna Canyon/El Toro roads: Officers responded to a non-injury
collision involving two cars near the intersection at 2:28 p.m.
* St. Ann’s Drive: A resident reported that a large hummingbird
flew into her home and wouldn’t leave in the 600 block at 2:46 p.m.
* Shaws Cove: A young man was reported stranded on the rocks at
4:39 p.m. Lifeguards were advised when he made it back to shore.
* Wards Terrace: A resident reported that someone was walking
around in the vacant apartment above their home in the 2000 block at
4:52 a.m. Officers arrived and found a man inside. They released him
to his mother.
* El Toro/Laguna Canyon roads: Officers were called to a two-car
collision in the intersection at 4:56 p.m. A Connecticut driver had
tried to make a left onto Laguna Canyon Road when she hit an oncoming
car. She was cited for failing to yield. Only moderate damage was
reported on both vehicles.
MONDAY
* Laguna Canyon Road: A resident reported that a $3,000 brass
door knocker was stolen sometime in the past 14 days in the 1900
block at 12:51 p.m.
* Myrtle Street: Officers responded to a traffic collision in the
100 block at 3:01 p.m. A 17-year-old Laguna Beach man lost control of
his car, which fishtailed and hit another car waiting for the light.
No injuries were reported. The driver was cited for unsafe turning
and no proof of insurance.
* Police Station: A man walked into the station and claimed that
he wanted to “cap himself in the head” at 4:18 p.m. He asked to be
committed for a 72-hour-mental evaluation and was transported to
South Coast Medical Center.
TUESDAY
* Seaview Street: A gasoline spill was reported in the 600 block
at 10:57 a.m. City crews contained the spill and confirmed that
nothing had entered the storm drains.
* South Coast Highway: A resident reported that her neighbor
moved trash cans into their yard in the 31000 block at 5:14 p.m.
