Bridge discussion continues

I personally would like to know why Robert Graham, who is on the
Community Redevelopment Committee, is so in favor of a 19th Street
bridge and so opposed to a Gisler Avenue bridge. Could it be because
he lives in Mesa Verde?
I don’t know what Westside residents want and I would like to hear
that, but I would bet it is not another thoroughfare. I think enough
time and money have been spent on this already give it a rest, like
the majority of the residents of Costa Mesa want.

After reading the article on bridges (“Bridge comes across city’s
desk again,” Saturday), I studied my county map to see what the
problem is. It is not that we need a couple of new bridges; it is
that the river cuts off east and west traffic along its whole path.
Why not construct simple access roads all along both sides of the
river? This would allow residents in the concentrated communities on
both sides of the river easily to get to the existing bridges and
then to the highways. This solution also would improve safety by
allowing rescue workers to get to any location quickly whether the
help is needed at the river or in one of the adjacent communities.
