Day picks Cal Poly SLO

Costa Mesa High senior Sharon Day, a three-sport star athlete for

the Mustangs, will play soccer and compete in track and field at Cal

Poly San Luis Obispo, starting in September, she said Tuesday.

Day said she enjoyed her visit at Cal Poly in November and she was

also attracted to the university because it offered her major:

kinesiology.

The Pacific Coast League Co-Most Valuable Player last season in

soccer, she helped the Mustangs win the program’s first CIF playoff

game. She also led the Mustangs with 17 goals and added nine assists

last season on her way to receiving first-team All-CIF Division IV

honors. She earned first-team All-PCL recognition as a sophomore.

Day has excelled in track and field. A three-time State Meet entry

in the high jump, she won the state crown last spring after recording

a school-record 5 feet, 11 inches. She is Costa Mesa’s first girl to

win a state title in track and field.

Day has also won three consecutive CIF Division titles in the high

jump, and last year she won PCL championships in the 200- and

400-meters, and the high jump.

She is also a standout in volleyball.
