Brownie was born with her eyes open, making her exceptional from
the time of her birth. Brownie’s mom was rescued while pregnant from
a shelter’s death row in September, making Brownie also very lucky.
Less than a week ago, Brownie’s luck changed when her corneas
ruptured and veterinarians predicted a dismal future. Friends at the
Community Animal Network in Newport Beach waited to see if her
corneas would regenerate.
“They miraculously did and she can see,” said network founder
DiAnna Pfaff-Martin.
The Eye Clinic in Orange County, which has veterinary eye
specialists, discovered that Brownie’s eyelashes were causing the
irritation, and cataracts and eyelid reconstructive surgery would be
the required solution.
The network is now accepting tax deductible donations for the
“Brownie’s Sight Fund.”
Pfaff-Martin also pointed out that the network’s Web site now
includes a “Bridge to Life” to thank those who helped save Marcus, a
kitten whose intestines were wrapped around his lungs.See other

pet store at Fashion Island between noon and 4 p.m. on weekends.
