SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Vanguard University junior outside hitter Heather DeJongh finished with 16 kills and 14 digs, but Point Loma Nazarene ended the Lions’ first NAIA national tournament appearance with a 23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 victory in a single-elimination match Friday.
Vanguard (18-12), ranked No. 17, was one of 12 teams left going into Friday’s championship bracket.
Kelsey Wirt had 12 kills and seven digs and Meghan Walsh had 36 assists and nine digs.
The Lions were one of seven teams from the Golden State Athletic Conference in the 12-team bracket.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Sophomore forward Simone Ibbotson finished with 15 points in the Pirates’ consolation game at the Cuesta College Tournament Friday.
Natasha Cargill contributed 11 points for OCC (7-2).
The Pirates play the winner of Barstow or Redwood in a consolation round today at noon.
