Council picks committee members at meeting

Costa Mesa’s City Council will pick which members will represent the city on more than a dozen committees at tonight’s meeting.
The committees deal with a wide variety of subjects, from historical preservation to cultural arts to child-care services.
Liaisons to the Senior Center, the school district and the fairgrounds will also be picked, among others.
Appointments to the Planning Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission will not be made until Jan. 20. Two seats are up on each of those bodies.
The City Council will also hear a presentation on Banning Ranch and Costa Mesa’s role in the negotiations over whether the 400-acre coastal parcel is developed and how.
A short discussion of the rules and responsibilities of City Council members will also take place, but in an abbreviated form because all of the newly elected council members have served before.
The meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall.
