Brute Invitational

CHINO HILLS — Costa Mesa senior David Garcia beat a wrestler from Bonita, 9-8, to win the 140-pound championship at Chino Hills High Saturday.

Garcia, a transfer from Newport Harbor, went 4-0 with three pins during the two-day tournament.

Last week, Garcia won the Lakeside Tournament in Lake Elsinore.

IRVINE — Newport Harbor senior heavyweight Cameron Rausch placed second at Irvine High Saturday.

Rausch (14-1) suffered his first defeat of the season, losing to Los Alamitos’ Spencer Smith, 7-2, in the championship.

Rausch went 2-1 with two pins.

Newport Harbor had 130-pounder Eddie Garcia, 135-pounder Blake Alonso and 215-pounder Rene Escolero each place third in their respective classes.

Newport Harbor finished ninth as a team, the best performance at the event under Coach Dominic Bulone’s 10 years at the school.

Los Alamitos won the event.

Mission Hills 33

SAN MARCOS — Junior center Katie Bergsma finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds in a nonleague game Saturday, helping the Sea Kings improve to 7-0 on the season.

Sophomore Kayla Marolt had 12 points and four steals.

CdM opens with Estancia at the Liberty Christian Tournament on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

WESTMINSTER — Sophomore shooting guard Danny Cheek finished with a career-high 26 points in the Sea Kings’ final game at the La Quinta Tournament Saturday.

Senior Sean Donovan had 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for CdM (2-2)

IRVINE — Senior striker Evan Walker scored three goals, two off headers, lifting Newport Harbor past El Dorado, 3-0, Saturday and into the Irvine Challenge championship match.

The Sailors play El Toro for the title at Irvine High Monday at 7:30 p.m. Newport Harbor advanced out of its pool after going 3-0 during the first two days of action.

Dillan Freiberg and Innocente Tellez each recorded a goal and an assist in the Sailors’ 3-1 victory over Upland earlier in the day.

CORONA DEL MAR — Leslee Kaczmarek scored three goals to lead the Sea Kings in their nonleague game Saturday.

Katie McCormick and Victoria Kennedy added two goals each for CdM (4-0).

IRVINE — Nushin Tasbihchi and Jackie Freiberger each scored goals in Estancia’s 2-1 victory against El Modena in pool-play action at the Irvine Challenge Saturday.

Estancia (2-4-1) lost to University, 6-0, in its other match.
