The Newport Harbor-Costa Mesa Lions Club has a busy week coming up. On Saturday, members will be wrapping gifts at the Boys & Girls Club at Rae School, then distributing Christmas gifts.
On Saturday and Sunday, Lion Lynn Seaholm will lead a group of Lions Club members selling ice cream at the Orange County Market Place.
Then on Monday, Lion Sue Seager will coordinate Lion volunteers at the Soup Kitchen to feed the hungry.
More than 35 members of the Rotary Club of Newport Irvine are volunteering at various places families of fallen soldiers will go to while visiting the area this week as part of Snowball Express, which offers getaways to Disneyland and Universal Studios to help the families deal with grief during the holidays.
The families arrived at John Wayne and Los Angeles International Airports on Tuesday and will head home Saturday.
Club members are welcoming the arriving families of the fallen, getting them to the bus transportation for their hotel, according to past President John Brainerd.
Exchange Club helping Camp Pendleton Marine families
The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor has adopted six families for Christmas.
While the club has money budgeted for the project, members are donating as well to buy Christmas gifts and food, according to past President Bob Bechtel.
Rotary Club of Newport Beach Sunrise members are collecting unwrapped gifts for children of Marines at Camp Pendleton.
Member Laura Dietz told club members if they didn’t have a gift to donate, she was accepting cash donations and will do the shopping for the children.
Supporting the Marine families at Camp Pendleton is the club’s continuing project.
WORTH REPEATING
Thought for the Day as provided by Greg Kelley of the Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council … “The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.”
