Two Huntington Beach high school students have been awarded prestigious scholarships.
Ocean View High School senior Ginette Sims has been awarded a full four-year scholarship to the college of her choice.
Ginette received the National College Match scholarship from QuestBridge, a nonprofit organization that matches gifted, low-income students with 20 of the nation’s top colleges.
In return, schools such as Princeton, Yale, Stanford and Columbia give scholarships to the students and pay QuestBridge for helping to diversify their student bodies.
Ginette decided to apply for the scholarship after hearing about it from one of her teachers.
She was selected as a finalist in the program and then ranked the top eight schools that interested her.
She selected Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., because of its English program.
Her goal is to major in English, working toward a career in journalism.
Janice Jihyun Lee of Marina High School was awarded a $14,000 scholarship from the Jewish Guild for the Blind.
The Jewish Guild for the Blind annually awards scholarships to high-achieving, college-bound high school students.
Applicants must be legally blind and pass rigorous application criteria that include academic excellence, community involvement, financial need, and U.S. citizenship.
Lee was among 14 other students nationwide awarded a scholarship.
