CdM PCL champs take home all-league accolades

Corona del Mar High seniors Conley Kipp and Sydney Brombal, junior Madie Smith and sophomore Catherine Sullivan made first-team All-Pacific Coast League in girls’ volleyball after lifting the Sea Kings to their third straight league championship.

The four players contributed to CdM (23-9, 7-1 in league) beating Beckman, 25-21, 21-25, 16-25, 26-24, 15-11, to win the league crown in the regular-season finale.

The Sea Kings went on to play in the CIF Southern Section Division II-A championship and the CIF State Division II Southern California Regional championship.

Kipp, a 6-foot-4 middle blocker, led CdM with 247 kills and 43 blocks. She is a repeat first-team pick.

Brombal, an outside hitter, finished with 216 kills, 269 digs and 34 service aces.

Smith, a setter, had a team-best 938 assists and 307 digs to go with 67 kills and 19 aces. In 2007, Smith was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Year.

Sullivan, a libero, finished with 188 digs.

Senior outside hitter Jenny Martin and junior middle blocker Amanda Nickel received second-team recognition for the second straight season.

University outside hitter Bojana Todorovic was named league MVP.
